the bird diner is all fucked up.
Some commando squirrel raided the bird feeder last night, skillfully chomping through the string to make the whole thing crash to the ground and dispense its contents.
Should have added “BIRDS ONLY” to that “FREE BIRD SEED” sign. Damn unintentional loopholes.

See Marko, that is the slippery slope you have to deal with when you create avian entitlement programs!

Don’t say I didn’t warn you. They are clever and relentless, and make great targets.

Consider yourself lucky - you didn’t get any anvils on the head.

What you need to do is post the proper signage to create a Squirrel Free Zone. Those things ALWAYS work…

Squirrel stew can be tasty.

Grease the pole with vaseline - the little varmints won’t be able to climb it - and it makes for great entertainment watching them try.

Heard the most effective was to suspend the feeder by a horizontal line, and cut the tops and bottoms off aluminum cans, and string them on the line. This way the squirrels must navigate thick, shifting cylinders to make it to the feeder.
Never tried it myself, supposed to work well.

In my experience, you won’t be able to keep the squirrels off of the bird feeder. You can have some fun with them with either of the following:
A squirrel-a-pult - easily made with bunjee & a plastic collander.

Or a birdfeeder from ‘Droll Yankees’ that spins them off.

They also make decent targets while teaching the little ones how to shoot.

[...] noticed the other day that Marko was having trouble with the squirrels getting to his bird feeder. Some of you might remember that [...]
