a glaring design omission.

merlot

As you can see, the beverage holder in the Grand Caravan is entirely inadequate for its stated purpose.  My Merlot glass keeps tipping over on the bumpy dirt roads here in rural NH.

I shall have to write a letter of complaint to the manufacturer.

Make an annular cut in packing foam, the type you see lining flight-cases for electronics. That should provide a “foot” in the beverage holder, which should just squidge over the base of the wine-glass keeping it reasonably steady, whilst making it possible to take a judicious swig as necessary.

I don’t hold with drink-driving, but I’ve been in cars with sober drivers enough whose road habits made me want a restorative glug or three.

Three cheers for Swig, my faithful hip-flask.

Surely you’ve got a spare sippy cup or two on hand.

that cupholder fits the merlot bottle just fine…

Yes, who in their right mind would drink only a glass at a time? There is a reason they sell alcohol in bottles, not in tiny glasses.

  5. Michael Hawkins Says:

You can’t drink merlot straight from the bottle, it needs some air

  6. Ditto Says:

I would try a large tumbler. And, skip the wine and fill it with Whiskey.

    Just so.

Wine and minivans are things best left to women.

Not too long ago, it was perfectly legal to drive down the road in NH sipping the adult beverage of your choice…bars used to pour your last call drink in a plastic cup for you at closing time!

“Drinking wine from anything other than a wine glass makes me feel like a drunk. ‘Hey, could you refill my Yahtzee shaker?’”

my boone’s farm merlot tastes great from the bottle…and the second one tastes even better…jtc

I think it’s time to spend some time doing research with wine-bottles and straws. Use the same mechanism for forced aeration of the boozle, plus insufflation of oxygenated post-process grape-juice.

    For SCIENCE!

well. minivans maybe, but the problem is clearly the mismatch of that low-end red stemware to your beverage holder–the one in my ‘87 Suby 4wd wagon holds a big Burgundy fishbowl (full of said Burgundy) just fine

(now just need to adapt the unused cigarette lighter socket to hold my Taurus snub and the rear seat pocket to secure my Bulgarian Krinkov)

    nice blog, BTW
