Is there a disorder for every facet of human behavior these days, or what?
Where I come from, that’s called “being an asshole.”
Great, now there’s a bogus medical excuse for that, too. I’m sure there’ll be some psychotropic drug available for EDD soon, because there are still a few people in the country who aren’t psycho-medicated to the eyeballs yet.

Hey, I have a very serious condition, too!
I’m a dick. No, that’s not an acronym, it’s just sometimes, I’m a dick. I have to live with it. Sometimes, I make bad choices. Have the next drink. Tell the uncomfortable truth. Poke fun.
*shrugs* Somehow, I just feel like – in a country where “growing up” is something to be avoided by all at all costs – it’s good to own up to the fact that I’m not perfect, and sometimes I am a whirling jackass, not fit for public office and only in a responsible position by dint of nobody else wanting the job.
*shrugs* I’m good fun the rest of time, though.

I -ing embrace my Empathy Deficit Disorder. It’s not a condition, it’s a lifestyle.

I don’t see how they can call it a disorder when it is all relative. If someone is upset because their favorite person on American Idol gets dumped, and I don’t give a rat’s ass, does that mean I am not empathetic, or that I just happen to have a different set of criteria as to what is important in my life? Sounds like more BS from psychologists trying to find another bogus thing for which to treat people.
Just my opinion.

That psychologist needs to get her ass back in school, and take her own core coursework again along with some anthropology and history for good measure.
Empathy is a subject covered by childhood development, neurobiology, abnormal psychology, and, well, most of frickin’ psychology. It’s a deeply complex and multifaceted feature of humanity, and no one who understood HER OWN FIELD well enough to be running her yap about it would say something so utterly facile as “empathy deficit disorder” being created by an “acquisitive” culture or causing war- and no one who understood any other field of studying humanity would think that these were problems of modernity. Drop her ass in a fucking New Guinea jungle with half a dozen tribes that are very premodern and kill members of opposing tribes just because that’s how it’s done, then let’s review her understanding.

Tam is a malingerer.
By embracing the disorder, does she not show it empathy?

Expect to see this as a criminal defense in the near future.
“Your Honor, my client isn’t guilty by reason of Empathetic Deficit Disorder”. He didn’t realize that he was causing someone pain by taking their wallet. It’s his parents fault, it’s society’s fault….it’s everyone’s fault but my client. The culture of America forced my client to steal in order to maintain his status among his friends; since he doesn’t have a job, this was the only way he could afford that big screen TV”

“Empathy Deficit Disorder” was issued to me right after they cut off all my hair at Parris Island…It is still one of my treasured Marine Corps Momentos. Not so much for my kids though…

My wife calls me a “flaming asshole”, now I can tell her its not my fault. (And I consider it a compliment)
