So how much snow did we get? Apparently, more than this place has ever gotten before Halloween, and by a fair amount.
We had about six to eight inches of snow on the ground on Sunday morning. Unfortunately, it was the kind of wet, heavy snow that is very difficult to clear with the snowblower. Fortunately, the wife has a new AWD vehicle, and a neat garage tent for it. That means she had to do no scraping whatsoever, and I didn’t have to bundle up and try to clear the driveway before she left for work on Sunday morning. The Subaru does much better in this kind of mess than her old Neon did, which is to be expected.
(The Grand Marnier actually does fairly well in the snow despite only being a front wheel drive vehicle. It’s a heavy car, with a big cast-iron engine sitting right on top of the driving axle, and with my leet drivezorz skillz, I can usually make it up our driveway.)
So yeah: ominous start into the snow season here in Upper Cryogenica. But the wife got to work on time, we didn’t loseĀ power, and all the snow will be gone by mid-week because temps are going to be in the mid-50s.

Congrats on your first snowfall. Just out of couriousity, how much snow will your
garage tent support?
Well, the manual says it’s not rated for snow load, but the wife knows someone locally who has had one of these up for years without problems. FWIW, the snow just slid right off the plastic this time. It doesn’t look like any snow load heavy enough to tear it up would be able to stick to the roof. We’ll see how it goes this winter.
Out here I’d say you have a good season in the ground after that snow. Not so sure if that applies up your direction.
Grand Marnier…with an engine?
You, my friend, must take your drinking very, very seriously.
? Do you have winter tyres for the Grand Marnier?
This is northern New England. EVERYONE has two sets of tires for their cars, and we all participate in the biannual Changing Of The Tires.
Which Subaru did you get? Forester?
Yes, a 2011 Forester. Nice car, and better for this neck of the woods than a Dodge Neon.
Yeah the newer Foresters are really sweet cars, the older ones are not bad but the new ones are enough bigger to make difference without getting to large size.
Roberta was set on one till she drove top trim level Accord, then she changed her mind cause of nicer interior and higher mpg, with 4 cylinder, because she commutes ~3 times a month back to her home town to see friends and her horse.
We still might replace my econo box, ’02 Hyundai Accent, with Forester when the time comes.
