we’re schtuck in ze schnow.

The snow is falling.  The weather people are telling us to expect 12-24″ locally.  My snowblower is gassed up and ready to do battle with Nature McHitlergaia.

I found just the thing for fetching groceries in a New England winter storm:

Now I just need to convince Robin to let me trade the minivan in on one of those.  I’d hug it and squeeze it, and call it my Goremobile.

Why oh why can’t I buy a humvee? Not a hummer, a humvee. I’m a simple guy. I like flat olive paint and don’t need leather interiors. I’m not asking for much.

    Lovely! Just lovely!

And practical for mud season, too. (Should it ever arrive!)

    Do want! 8)

  6. Chang says:

Damn, I want one, too! I’d also like a John Deere Gator with some sick treads.

    Okay, that’s just fricken’ awesome.

Add rear track(wheel) steering and I’ll take one.

That’s actually a kit you can buy for your vehicle: http://www.mattracks.com/

If this winter progresses, I’m buying a set for the Ram…

  10. Kristopher says:

    Yep … mattracks.

Put a set on a pickup and call it done.

Alternately, you can get vintage eastern europe gear cheap, and import it as an antique if it’s old enough:

    That’s obscene.

    I want it.

And here I thought snow tires on the panzerwagen (88 MB 300te) were enough, I was wrong. I’m not sure I could afford to feed it, I want it just to be politically incorrect.

Coolness factor +10. But what I want to know is, do they come in chrome with spinners?

We got 12.5″ here in Indy. 6th worst on record, heaviest since ’94. Thank goodness I can walk to the grocery store and a few restaurants.

Toss a plow on it and your driveway would be done inside of an hour, and you could sip coffee and listen to tunes the whole time!

  17. Just an FYI: HMMWV heaters suck.

  18. ZerCool says:

Mattracks rock in the snow, mud, and swamp. If you try to put them on pavement and turn the wheel even a tiny bit, they fall off. Literally. Not “the tread slips off the wheels” … the whole flippin’ track comes off the hub.

  19. Victor Krueger says:

You do not want an HMMWV. The GM 6.2L diesel is a piece of shinola. Its OK otherwise, other than being a foot wider than a full size pickup. For cold weather use, try to get all the arctic heater kits the Army has for them in Alaska. Supposedly the newer GM diesels are better, but GM has historically never made a decent 4-stroke diesel, and the 2-stroke Detroit Diesel (GM) engines are no longer legal for highway use (emmisions). They are still common for heavy equipment.
