a headline I never expected to type.

Pelosi and Reid oppose a renewal of the 1994 “Assault Weapons Ban”.

In other news, pigs have been spotted in the landing pattern at Boston’s Logan Airport.

(Could it be that the House and Senate Democrats remember that the last time they voted “yea” on a major gun control bill–the very bill suggested for renewal by President Obama’s Attorney General–an awful lot of them lost their seats and had to go looking for real jobs?)

Ya, I hear ya. I never would have thought they would say not to any new gun control. . . I am still trying to figure out what they are doing we don’t know about. They have to be hiding something. . .

    Something smells fishy.

  3. pelosi is quoted as saying that the original was shown to be “ineffectual”…you can bet your ass she’s waiting -and working- on a “better” one.

*shrug*. Even politicians aren’t stupid enough to commit political suicide the same way twice running.

The Dems can all plainly recall what the last AWB cost ’em. Like, everything. America has a gun-owning culture. Long may it last. And to stay in, they have to speak for the majority of Americans.

Maybe I’m just suspicious/cynical, but I can’t help thinking they have something else up their sleeve…

If they make a direct play against the Second Amendment, then they’re a damn sight dumber than even the average politician. It’s bloody obvious that they can’t take it on with a straight “nurrr, guns are bad, mmmkay?” without absolutely trashing their majority.

Maybe it’s time they stopped hating and learned to love the gun. Gee, if someone actually backed all the amendments of the Constitution… holy crap, I’d shit pink!

But it would be a happy shit. It really would.

  7. Looking for love in all the wrong places.

I’m thinking that if these maroons push hard on gun control now they may be looking down the business end of an EBR.

And I think they know it…

It’s damage control. They made those statements because Holder let the cat out of the bag too soon.

Reid even voted against reauthorizing the last one. I may not have much use for the guy, but it appears that he’s not eager to see it come again.

As for Pelosi, I don’t doubt she’d love one, but she knows that the Democrats WILL pay a price for a new AWB. That price tag will likely mean the loss of Democratic control of the House, and along with it her post as Speaker of the House. Sure, she’d keep her seat in the House, but the power she cheered upon her ascension to her current post would be gone.

Party leaders who preside over such losses usually end up being political has-beens nationally- look at what happened to Dick Gephardt when the Dems lost the House last time- he could have kept running for his seat, and he’d have kept it, but he’d have lost his status in DC. Pelosi does NOT want to go out like that, and if it means the anti-gun crowd doesn’t get their AWB, well, it’s cheap at the price for her.

  10. They only went looking for “real work” if you consider being a lobbyist to be real work…
