easily amused.

Robin bought one of these glass kettles recently, and I am utterly mesmerized by it every time I put on water for tea or coffee.  Because it’s made of glass, you can see the water boiling, and the red glow from the heating element makes the whole thing look like a science experiment.

    Really like your new format.

That “kettle” looks like the bottom half of a Kona coffee unit.
Was it new or second hand?

Many years ago, I had a student in a sculpture course that replaced the electrical element in an electric stove with a very convincing neon tube. It looked red hot but was just neon tube lit up.

He then rigged a fish bowl full of water and goldfish with an air line. This caused the water to bubble.

Sitting on the neon element in the stove, the fish bowl appeared to be boiling the fish alive. A very disconcerting experience.

When it was realized that the bubbling water was not healthy for the goldfish, he dismantled it, but I managed to get some colour slides before that happened.
